Fort Collins recently embarked on a relife project with J-2 Contractors’ 844K loader at the start of March. Spearheading this project is service technician Tyler Bretz, a native of Greeley, Colorado.
Tyler’s journey with 4Rivers Equipment began in 2022, initially in agriculture before transitioning to construction. The decision to become a technician stemmed from his lifelong passion for working on his own vehicles, nurtured further during an internship with 4Rivers Equipment during high school. It was a natural fit.
For Tyler, this project marks his first experience with a relife, and he couldn’t be more thrilled. “The relife has been one of the best experiences I’ve had,” Tyler expressed. “It’s given me the opportunity to dive into every aspect of the machine. The lessons learned here will stick with me and streamline my future tasks. The next time an 844K comes through, I’ll be equipped to guide someone through the process.”
Tyler values the collaborative spirit within his team, emphasizing their readiness to assist whenever required. “What I like most about the team here in Fort Collins is how everyone is willing to help when needed,” he shared.
As a technician, Tyler finds the daily learning process to be the most rewarding aspect of his job. “My favorite aspect about being a technician is being able to learn every day,” he noted. “Most of the time you think you’ve seen it all, and then there’s that one machine that throws you for a loop.”
To stay on top of the latest advancements in his field, Tyler adopts a proactive approach. “I stay up to date with the latest advancements through training when available and by being hands-on with the machines,” he explained. “Understanding the changes and what remains consistent is key.”
The most gratifying moments for Tyler come after tackling challenging tasks. “What I find most rewarding about my job is after completing a tough job and witnessing the machine run perfectly with no issues,” he remarked. “Additionally, receiving positive feedback from customers who appreciate the work done on their machines is very rewarding.”
For aspiring technicians, Tyler offers valuable advice. “I would tell them to have an open mind and ensure that this is the career they truly want to pursue,” he advised. “Being a technician isn’t easy—it demands time, energy, and financial investment. But if someone is genuinely prepared for it, I would encourage them to pursue it. There’s no other dealership like 4Rivers that will stick their neck and make sure you get where you are wanting to be.
